Provo band plays first gig in Logan

The members of Alarm Call, local to Provo, drove two hours from their hometown to play at WhySound tonight.

“We want to start branching out,” said Al Deans, a guitar and synth player for the band.

After the members made the decision to spread their music, Deans contacted the venue to book the show. He had previously played at WhySound with a different group, but tonight was Alarm Call’s first gig in Logan.

“And hopefully not our last,” added Kelsie Everson, a vocalist, guitarist and pianist for the band.

Everson said the band tries to keep its sets dynamic.

“We don’t want to be a straight rock show the whole night,” she said. “We want to take people on a roller coaster ride.”

“Hopefully with some whiplash,” added Robert Dahle, Alarm Call’s bass player.

The members described their sound as progressive but not necessarily progressive rock.

“We try to move forward,” said Michael Clark, the band’s drummer. “We try to be accessible to listeners.”

The members hoped the show would be fun and engaging for the attendees, something they could connect to.

“A big part of music is intentionally leaving room for interpretation,” Dahle said. “I like the concept that no interpretation is wrong. It means something different to every individual and that’s just as valid as the next person’s.”

After the show, the band members said the concert went well and they had fun playing. Alarm Call is currently planning another gig in Logan -- a house show with the band Kitfox.
