Logan musician to play with two bands in one show

Several bands in the Logan music scene are inadvertently connected, sharing multiple members. Some performers have many shows in one night or many performances in one gig.

Jett Fesler will be playing a show at WhySound on April 29 with two of his three bands.

Fesler is a member of Valerian, The Last Lost Continent, and little Barefoot. Every band has its own sound and he plays different roles in each including bass, guitar, vocals, keyboard and synthesizer.

The concert will feature The Last Lost Continent and little Barefoot.

“Each night and show is different,” he said. “I’m playing so much music and so many different styles.”

Brandon Casper, another member of The Last Lost Continent, understands the benefits that result from playing in multiple bands.

“You’re constantly out of your comfort zone but that’s how you know you’re getting better,” he said.

Casper also plays in the band Blackford Blues. He immediately said yes when the members asked him to join because the music they played didn’t match his regular style.

“A lot of times I like to play in multiple things because learning different styles of music helps you grow so fast,” he said.

However, Casper and Fesler also recognize the issues involved in playing with multiple bands.

“I never have free time anymore,” Fesler said.

He struggles to find time with his wife, playing in three bands and working the sound board for WhySound.

“That one is definitely a tough one that I had to learn to balance,” Fesler said.

Casper said scheduling shows can cause several complications.

“They have to not conflict with other bands as well,” he said. “It can make life pretty difficult.”

Ultimately, Fesler and Casper have enjoyed being in multiple bands and working on several different projects.

“As time consuming and demanding as it is, it’s the most fun I've had in a very long time,” Fesler said. “I've played in venues and places I probably wouldn't have if I was only in one band and I've also made some really, really good friends that I normally would have just been acquaintances with.”

“If you could make it work, I’d recommend it,” he added.

Casper is grateful to have seen the music scene in Logan grow.

“The music scene is better than it’s been in a long time because a lot of us are taking initiative,” he said.

Casper also believes many opportunities arise from playing in more than one band.

“You put your eggs in multiple baskets and maybe one of them will get big,” he said.

The show at WhySound begins at 8 p.m., also featuring Sundressed and The Heartless Breakers.

Tickets cost $6 at the door.
