Logan band to play release show for new album

The Logan band panthermilk will be playing a release show on Saturday for its latest album, “Totem.” The concert will take place at Mojo’s Music Cafe in Ogden at 7 p.m.

“It’s a real nice place,” said Josh Mikesell, the band’s guitarist. “Real cozy and homey.”

The band has developed a strong following in Ogden because panthermilk’s first gig took place at the cafe. The members have since deemed it their regular spot.

“It’s kind of home base for us,” said Benton Wood, the band’s lead vocalist.

Although panthermilk has released one other album, “Totem” is the first to be professionally printed for distribution.

Wood created the title in reference to a totem pole he drove by everyday when he began recording in Mt. Sterling, near the mouth of Sardine Canyon. He said the pole had become a landmark, evoking thoughts which questioned the meaning behind totems.

“Anyone can have a totem,” Wood said. “Something you can clutch to or something that represents bigger life themes.”

The themes of the album mainly include mental illness and love. Wood said “Totem” is full of feel-good songs with a spiritual undertone. Musically, the songs are rhythmic and layered with vocal harmonies.

“It’s kind of dreamy,” he added. “It sounds like the vocals are coming from outer space.”

Wood said the songs are very upbeat and fun, a tribute to his own personality. He hopes this will come across in the music.

Mikesell believes those who attend the release show will thoroughly enjoy "Totem," describing the album as “pleasure” in the ears and soul.

Totem is available for purchase on pathermilk.bandcamp.com.
